How do I play?
Every move must be a legal chess move, and every move must capture another piece. You win when only one piece is left on the board.
Tap a piece to select it, then tap a highlighted piece to capture it.
Why can't I move that piece there?
There are two usual reasons. Every move has to capture a piece, so you can't move to an empty square. And bishops, rooks and queens can't jump: they stop at the first piece in their path, so they can only capture that one. Knights are the exception and jump as they do in chess.
With show legal moves turned on in settings, the pieces you can capture are marked when you select a piece.
I'm stuck. Is this level definitely solvable?
Yes. Every level has been checked to make sure it has a solution. The trick is usually the order: the obvious first capture is often the one that strands you.
Undo lets you step back as many moves as you like, and restart puts the level back to the beginning.
Can I skip a level?
No. Each level unlocks when you solve the one before it, though you can replay any level you've already solved.
If you're properly stuck, tap the ? button on the level. It lets you send a picture of the starting position to a friend and ask for their help.
Can I change how the pieces and board look?
Yes. Go to settings and choose between the Modern and Classical piece sets or board colours.
Your progress and purchase
Will my progress carry over to a new iPhone?
Your progress is stored on your iPhone. If you move to a new iPhone by restoring from an iCloud or computer backup, your progress comes with it.
If you delete the app, your progress is deleted too.
How do I start again from the beginning?
Go to settings and choose reset progress. This clears your solved levels but keeps your settings.
How do I download Cullmate again?
Once you've bought Cullmate, you can download it again for free on any iPhone signed in to the same Apple Account. Search for Cullmate in the App Store, or find it in your purchases.
How do I get a refund?
Refunds are handled by Apple rather than by us. You can request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
About Cullmate
Why is there no free version?
Cullmate is a one-off purchase so that it can be the whole game with nothing else attached: no adverts, no in-app purchases and no tracking.
Does Cullmate collect any of my data?
No. There are no accounts, no analytics and no tracking. The privacy policy has the details.
Is Cullmate available on iPad or Android?
Not at the moment. Cullmate is made for iPhone.
